Definition of slope
The slope of a line is a measure of the incline of the line. The slope is a number which indicates both the direction of the line and the steepness of the line.

You can know the direction of a line by looking at the sigh of the slope:

A positive slope indicates that the line goes uphill if you are moving from left to right

A negative slope indicates that the line goes downhill if you are moving from left to rigth

Numerically, the slope of a line is the ratio of the change in y compared to the change in x.

$slope=\frac{change\;in\;y}{change\;in\;x}$
